you knew michelle obama was going to be really good. you knew bill clinton was going to be really good and you knew president obama was going to be really good. so he was speaking in an early part of the convention and he was not there to sort of do anything other than cheer lead for the president. and that can be a little difficult and if you misstep it you'll get hammered by it. i want to set that as a context. now, the speeches are not necessarily about substance. they are trying to rally the crowd and get people energized. the fact that people are criticizing that speech for not having very much substance is not a big deal to me. he has to overcome that. convention speeches can hurt your reputation as we saw with bill clinton back in '88. but of course you can overcome that as well. >> yes, jerry? >> i think a lot of people have criticism of o'malley about his speech. they say it was short, without substance and all of that. i have to agree with my colleague mike here because he was put in a tough situation. look who he followed the
